The 2026 Flag Football World Championship, the IFAF Flag Football World Championship, takes place August 13–16 in Düsseldorf, Germany, with 16 men’s and 16 women’s national teams. When and where the 2026 Flag Football World Championship takes place

The 2026 Flag Football World Championship is played from August 13 to 16 at the Düsseldorf flag football complex, in the Garath district. It is the last global stage before flag football’s Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028, so every snap counts.

Flag Football World Championship Results, Day 1: August 13, 2026 – World Flag 2026

🏈 HERE’S HOW THE FIRST MORNING OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WENT 🌍

We already have the first results from Düsseldorf 2026! 🔥

🇺🇸 USA got off to a strong start with a 46-14 win over Australia in women’s and a 50-38 win over Israel in men’s.

🇲🇽 Mexico also started strong: a 38-14 win over Germany in women’s and a 30-22 win in men’s.

🇯🇵 Japan dominated Brazil in women’s with a convincing 32-0 win.

🇨🇦 Canada beat Panama 27-14, while 🇬🇧 Great Britain defeated France 33-14 in women’s.

👀 One of the first surprises came in men’s: 🇵🇦 Panama defeated France 33-26.

In men’s, 🇨🇭 Switzerland also impressed with a 52-19 win over Brazil, while 🇮🇹 Italy beat Great Britain 21-12.

🇪🇸 Spain did not play their scheduled game against Nigeria following Nigeria’s withdrawal from the tournament.

Schedule and format of the 2026 Flag Football World Championship

The 16 teams in each division are split into 4 groups of 4, seeded by the IFAF World Ranking. The group stage is followed by a direct knockout bracket all the way to the gold medal final. We’ll fill in the results below as the tournament progresses.

Teams to watch in Düsseldorf

Mexico, Spain and Panama are among the teams our community will be following most closely in Düsseldorf. Mexico’s women arrive as contenders after a huge 2025, relive their World Games 2025 title, and Spanish flag keeps growing season after season. Panama also arrives at an impressive level in both divisions, the men’s team led by HC Iván Orozco and the women’s team, after great runs at the Continental Flag Championship held in Panama.

Breaking News: 2026 Flag Football World Championship in Düsseldorf

🇳🇬 Nigeria withdraws from the Düsseldorf 2026 Flag Football World Championships – Update: August 11, 2026

Nigeria has confirmed the withdrawal of its men’s and women’s national teams from the IFAF Flag Football World Championships Düsseldorf 2026 after the travelling delegation was unable to secure the necessary visas to enter Germany in time for the tournament.

IFAF, together with the relevant authorities and event partners, made efforts over the past days to find a solution, but the visas will ultimately not be issued in time for the Championships.

Due to the timing of the withdrawal, Nigeria will not be replaced by another team. Under the competition regulations, teams scheduled to face Nigeria in the group stage will be awarded an automatic victory.

Nigeria’s pathway to LA28 remains open. Both the men’s and women’s teams will have the opportunity to compete at the 2027 IFAF Continental Championships, where a top-two finish would allow them to advance to the Olympic qualification pathway.
